Participation of   a Delegation from the Statistical Centre of Iran in the 47^th Session of the Statistical Commission of the United Nation and Presenting the Persian Translation of the SNA 2008 Publication to the Director of the United Nation Statistics Division( UNSD)

A delegation from the Statistical Centre of Iran (SCI) headed by Dr. Adel Azar, Head of the SCI, attended the 47^th session of the United Nations Statistical Commission and its side events held in New York, USA from 4 to 11 March 2016.  In these sessions, various issues such as moving towards better information systems for the 2030 agenda, moving from data revolution to data solutions, international comparison program, geospatial information and earth observation, data and indicators of Sustainable Development Goals for the 2030 Agenda, practical applications of ecosystem accounting, global value chain measurement for sustainable development, modernizing of national statistical organization business processes using GIS, measuring and reducing poverty in all its dimensions, the Paris21 advanced data planning tool, initiatives for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), coordination mechanisms for capacity building in economic statistics and national accounts, empowering national statistical organizations to produce environment statistics for monitoring climate change and the SDGs, good governance statistics, and integrating geospatial data and statistics and other issues were reviewed and discussed.

It is worthy saying that during the 44^th Session, the Statistical Centre of Iran was recommended by the UNSD to translate SNA 2008 into Persian for Persian-speaking countries.  The translation was made in two volumes by one of the SCI’s senior experts experienced in the area of national accounts and was presented to Mr. Stefan Schweinfest, Director of the United Nations Statistics Division by Dr. Adel Azar during his meeting with Mr. Schweinfest on 10 March 2016 in order to be posted on UNSD website.

 It is necessary to mention that the Session of the United Nation Statistical Commission is annually held in March in UN headquarters in New York in which the heads and senior experts of National Statistical Offices and international organizations participate to review, discuss and decide on different statistical issues.
