During five years, migration of half million people to Tehran (capital of Iran)

Based on the results of the 2016 National Housing and Population Census, between the years 1390[1] and 1395, a number of 516922 people have migrated to Tehran province from other provinces

The results  of the 2016 Census demonstrate that Alborz province with 50885 persons has had the highest migration to Tehran during the mentioned 5 years followed by  Lorestan, Hamadan and Khorasan-e Razavi provinces with  41136, 33648 and 33414 migrants, respectively.

The statistics reveal that about 10 percent of the migrants to Tehran were from Alborz province, and migrants from Alborz, Lorestan, Hamedan and Khorasan-e-Razavi provinces account for 30 percent of the total migrants to Tehran province.

Also in the cited five years, 350 thousand 632 persons have migrated from Tehran province to other provinces, of which Alborz province with 89 thousand 197 people have had  the highest migrants from Tehran province, followed by Gilan Mazandaran and Khorasan-e Razavi  with 28531, 23643 and 21241 persons, respectively.

The net migration in Tehran province is +166290. The net migration illustrates that between the years 1390 and 1395, the number of people who have entered Tehran is more than the persons who have left it.
