Six Percent of the Iranian People are Over 65 Years Old.

The 2016 National Population and Housing Census indicates that only 6.1 percent of the Iranian are 65 years and over.

The results of the 2016 National Population and Housing Census shows that the population of the Islamic Republic of Iran is 79 million 926 thousand 270 persons who are living in 24 million 960 thousand 35 households. Based on this fact, on average, 3.3 persons are living in an Iranian household.

Men account for 40 million 498 thousand 442 persons and women make up 39 million 427 thousand 828 persons and this is the while that sex ratio in the country is 103 which means that there are 103 men per 100 women in Iran .Of the total population of the country, 24 percent fall into the 0-14 age group, 69.9 percent into the 15-64 age group and 6.1 percent into the 65 and over age group

 From among the provinces of the country, Tehran province with 13 million 267 thousand 637 people and Ilam province with 580 thousand 158 persons are the most and least populous provinces of the country, respectively.
