Based on the results of the 2016 National Population and Housing Census of, out of 24 million households in the country, one sixth of them are living in Tehran province.

The results of the 2016 National Population and Housing Census reveal that, there are a total of 24 million185 thousand 133 collective and private households in the country. The proportion of one- person households is 8.46 percent, two person households account  for 20.71 percent, three person households represent 28.45 percent, four -person households account for 27.64 percent, and five- person households make up 14.74 percent of households.

The released results of the 2016 National Population and Housing Census say that 17.73 percent of the collective and private households are living in Tehran province, which is one sixth of the total collective and private households, and Tehran province in this respect ranks first. At the same time, Ilam province by holding 0.66 percent of households enjoys the lowest number of the collective and private households among the provinces.
