Drop in Mean Age at first marriage for Females and Rise in Mean Age at first marriage for Males

According to the results of the 2016 Population and Housing Census, the mean age at first marriage for women dropped by 0.4 year in the year 1395 (21 March 2016- 20 March 2017) as compared to the year 2011 (21 March 2011- 20 March 2012); accordingly, the mean age at first marriage for women in the total country decreased from 23.4 years in the year 1390 to 23 years in the year 1395.

The mean age of first marriage for women was 23.4 years in urban and 22 years in rural areas in the year 1395. This indicator was 23.6 and 23 years in urban and rural areas for the year 1390, respectively.

Comparison of the 2016 and 2011 censuses shows a 0.7 year rise in the mean age of first marriage for men. According to these results, the mean age at first marriage for men in the total country was 27.4 in the year 1395 and 26.7 in the year 1390. This indicator was 27.8 and 26.5 years for urban and rural areas in the year 1395, respectively. Moreover, the mean age at first marriage for men in rural areas was 26.5 in the year 1395 and 25.8 in the year 1390.

Comparison of the mean age of first marriage in urban and rural areas shows that this indicator in urban areas always stands higher than rural areas. Also, the mean age of first marriage for men has been always higher than the mean age of first marriage for women in urban and rural areas.

It is noticeable that the changes in the mean age of first marriage for women in rural areas has been definitely higher than urban areas.
