On 25 October 2016, Ms. Yoriko Yasukawa, the UNFPA Asia-Pacific Regional Director along with Mr. Abdel-Ahad, Officer-in- Charge of UNFPA Office in Iran, met with Mr. Omid Ali Parsa, Head of the Statistical Centre of Iran (SCI). In this meeting attended by some senior officials and managers of the SCI, Mr. Parsa briefed the UNFPA delegation on the 2016 National Population and Housing Census in the Islamic Republic of Iran which is currently in process of execution.
He added: This Census has been designed in two phases: internet-based method (24 September-21 October) and face to face interview by use of Tablet device (19 October- 18 November).
The first phase, the internet-based Census which took place for the first time in Iran, proved very successful and went beyond the planned goal (35 %). The Head of the Statistical Centre of Iran mentioned that 46 percent of the Iranian people participated in the Internet-based Census which has been a great achievement for our country.
Then, the two sides discussed and exchanged views on mutual cooperation within the 6th UNFPA Country Program focusing on demographic dividend, population ageing and SDGs.
