In line with the expansion of statistical cooperation between the Statistical Centre of Iran (SCI) and other Iranian government organizations and aiming at boosting contribution in the materializing goals of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) field, as stipulated in the Fifth Development Plan and also for promoting the I.R. of Iran's position in the international ICT rankings, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Information Technology Organization of Iran (Ministry of ICT) and the Statistical Centre of Iran.
 The MoU was drafted and signed between the two parties based on the obligations set forth by the Note 3 of the Article 46 of the Fifth Development Plan Law on the necessity for developing a system for monitoring the ICT indicators of the nation till the end of the second year of the Plan. The need for maintenance of continuous monitoring by the Ministry of ICT in this regard using experiences, technical know-how, expertise and the executive capacity of the SCI were also among the motives of the MoU.
The subject of the MoU deals with optimal applications of scientific, technical and research capacities of the two parties and promoting their cooperation in the following activities:
1- Cooperation in development and compilation of the national and international indicators  and statistics in the field of ICT and international interactions
2- Cooperation in compilation of the national statistics in the field of ICT and supervising the process.
3- Contribution to and cooperation in establishing the National Statistical Network and updating the electronic enumeration method in the country
4-  Studying and developing the pertinent indicators, various calculation formulas, implementation regulations and methods recommended by the Information Technology Organization of Iran and converting them into national statistics
5- Conducting joint research and study projects
6- Holding required professional training courses in the field of statistics and monitoring of indicators  as indicated by both parties
This MoU was signed in the Statistical Centre of Iran on 16 July, 2012. This even was attended by Dr. Adel Azar, Head of the SCI, and Mr. Ali Hakim Javadi, Head of the Information Technology Organization of Iran and a number of deputies and directors of both organizations.
