Summary Results of the Urban and Rural Household Income and Expenditure Survey-2010

In the year 2010, an average rural household's net[1] expenditures totaled 68,477,000 Iranian rials with a 15.55 percent rise from 2009. Of the figure, nearly 26,137,000 rials (38%) went for food and tobacco expenditures and 42,340,000 rials (62%) for non-food expenditures. These figures experienced 19.17% and 13.42% rises in comparison with the year 2009 respectively.

 For food and tobacco expenditures, the greatest share was for meat with 24.65 percent, and for non-food expenditures, housing had the greatest share with 26.25 percent.

 

In the food and tobacco expenditures category, there was an increase of 31.19% for sugar, confectionary, tea, coffee and cocoa, 28.82% for “oil and fats”, 23.17% for meat, 20.53% for nuts and dried fruits, 18.19% for fruits and vegetables, 17.58% for flour, macaroni, bread, cereal and cereal products, 10.43% for spices, seasonings and other edible mixtures, 10.39% for beverages, prepared foods and tobacco and 9.77% for milk and milk products and eggs in comparison to the previous year.

 

 

In the non-food expenditures category, there was an increase of 18.57% in medical care and health services, 15.45% in housing, 13.27% in transport and communications, 12.84% in miscellaneous goods and services, 9.76% in recreation, entertainment and cultural services, 8.84% in household furniture, furnishings, equipment and services and 8.47% in clothing and footwear in contrast to the previous year.

 Based on the results of the 2010 HIES, the average stated annual income[1] of a rural household amounted to 59,337,000 rials with a growth of 13.16 percent from the previous year. As to sources, 34.22 percent was from own-account agricultural and non-agricultural jobs, 32.61 percent from wage/salary jobs, and 33.17 percent from miscellaneous sources

Facilities of living quarters

According to the results of the 2010 HIES, in the rural areas 93% of households had  an access to piped water, 99.5% to electricity, 40% to piped natural gas, 79% to hot water bathroom, 70.0% used fixed phone,73% used cell phone, and 3 % had  an access to the Internet.

In 2010, an average urban household's net [1]expenditures totaled 113,678,000 rials with a 14.60 percent rise from 2009. Of the figure, 26,157,000 rials (23.01%) went for food and tobacco expenditures and 87,520,000 rials (76.99%) for non-food expenditures. These figures show 16.21% and 14.13% rises for food and tobacco; and non-food expenditures in comparison with the preceding year respectively.

Income

The 2010 HIES indicates that the average stated annual income of an urban household to stood 106,156,000 rials, with a growth of 13.41 percent from the previous year. These figures show income from wage/salary jobs, own-account agricultural and non-agricultural jobs and miscellaneous sources increased by 6.17%, 8.70%, and 20.78% respectively in comparison with the preceding year.
